Tales Of The Samurai & Little Bird.

Some time ago, I was told by Naomi a story about a series of small poems related with the Japanese warlords and their characters:

If the little bird won't sing, I'll try to make them sing.
If the little bird won't sing, I'll wait for them to sing.
If the little bird won't sing, I'll kill them.

According to her, every Japanese schoolchild learns the following poem that illustrates the different leadership styles of these warlords.Later, I found out that the poems was about three most powerful warlords of Japan,  Oda Nobunaga of Owari , Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu. It is said that the three men were gathered in a garden, when a bird landed on a limb. A zen master asked them what they would do if the bird did not sing :

They said this about the three: If a little bird refused to sing, Nobunaga
would have thundered "Kill it !!!" or without a word cut it to pieces. Historian mentioned that Nobunaga arguablly the most potent and the most fierce Samurai in the era. He is described as a demonic figure with no mercy. Though, he was betrayed by one of his lieutenants, Akechi Mitsuhide, and slain at Honjoji temple .

Hideyoshi would have said "We're gonna make it want to sing." Toyotomi Hideyoshi was the successor of Nobunaga. He finally unified Japan and bring the end of the Civil War Era. After Nobunaga was slain by Mitshuhide , Hideyoshi killed Mitshuhide , and become a major candidate for the successor of Nobunaga . Then he buried his rivals one by one, and he conquered all over Japan at last. He wanted to conquer China. But this failed.

Tokugawa Ieyasu was a brilliant one. He is known as a patient, persevering man with an excellent talent for management.  He told everyone there that "If the little bird doesn't sing, I'll wait until it sings" and Ieyasu revealed his true form of a raptor. He broke Ishida Mitsunari , the successor of Hidetoshi , at the battle of Sekigahara in 1600, to prove him the strongest warlord in Japan. He got the title of "Shogun" in 1603, and established Edo Shogunate in Edo , the city known as Tokyo today his dynasty ruled until 1867!

Gunung Raya in Northern Langkawi.

Rising to a height of almost 900 meters - Gunung Raya is the tallest mountain in Langkawi. The mountain is believed to be the cursed form of a giant known as Mat Raya, who once lived on the island ! He eventually became involved in a furious argument and suddenly a bolt of lightning struck down from the heavens and as he looked up he turned to stone.
We drove up with the windows down looking and listening for wildlife. Its a beautiful drive, the temperature is slightly cooler and the views at the top are spectacular, when it is not enveloped in clouds.

You can see practically the whole island from up there.

Creepy Roads
A massive landslide has shut down a portion of the road.

Someone Is Watching You
Does anyone else ever get that ?

Creepy Plant
Young fern leaf. Looks kinda creepy doesn't it ?

Simply Awesome
Water drops caught inside the spider-web look like a diamonds.

Isolated
Fern leaf isolated from the dark background.

 Bizarre Insect
The firefly

Blood Sucking Leech
A leech attaches itself when it bites, and it will stay attached until it has had its fill of blood.

Freezing Action : Close Up Photography.

Want to finally understand exposure? Composition? Colour? Interested in learning to "see" and composing your images more creatively? Every amateur photographer needs to be close to with nature and surrounding. As a beginner, I am trying to produce something original and use of that to inspire others not just to take more pictures but to build up their own skills and contribute to the genre.

Remember - Photography is not just about aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Most of good photographer aren't gifted , they've simply learned about it and try to be the best. Whether you live in country side or city, "kampung house" or condominium, do not feel shy to learn.
There are so many web and blogs where you can read about photography and I recommend reading as much as you possibly can.

By the way,Thank you, thank you, thank you to all who've contributed to this blog and have left comments.  I never thought about being a photographer as a career until I started posting photos on my blog but honestly, I got a better job to do.

The Langkawi Wildlife Park - Part 2 !

There's so much photography opportunity in Langkawi's Wildlife Park ! It's always my goal to capture a clean and simple yet colourful photo. My determination paid off ( Amateur standard !) and I can trully say that I have yet to fully explore the vast image-making potential of the telephoto lens.
Here's a few of my favourite shots without any ruthless editing !

Cute Bunny
I love all kinds of animals but I have a special passion for rabbits.

Feeding Frenzy
Fact not myth - Rabbits overfed have more health problems and a shorter lifespan.

A Prey Animal
Those rabbits that adapt to our world become much more trusting and allow us to hold and handle them, but their instinctive nature will not change.

My Turn...
Another fact - Rabbits use body language much more than verbal language

The Pigeon Has Landed
Teach our children to handle rabbits quietly. This will help the rabbits be much more accepting ( and the pigeon too)

Fun Time With Erika & Nana
Rabbits are herbivores with a high reproduction rate. They have long ears, powerful hind legs with long feet and a short, furry and upturned tail.

Adorable.
Rabbits can be quite playful and entertaining, and seeing them race around the park, do binkies and get excited for treats can bring a lot of joy.

Family Pet
If you decide that a rabbit will make a great addition to your family, the next step is to choose the right rabbit.

Langkawi Field Photography - Traditional Subject ( Part 2 )

Another quotes from Bryan Petterson inspired me again today - " There may come a day when setting a creativity correct exposure is all done by the camera, but I cant ever imagine a time when a camera tells you the best points of view or the best light conditions. There is one constant with the art of image making : the need to create effective and powerful compositions. This ability lies solely on you,the photographer and no amount of technology can ever take your place ( Not even photoshop!) ".

So, go out there, never be shy and keep shooting !
